  • Data Analytics Certificate

    Harness the power of big data to solve real-world business problems

    The certificate in Data Analytics provides an understanding of the underlying fundamental concepts of contemporary data analytical methods. In addition, the classes give experience in obtaining, wrangling, and learning from big data through machine learning and deep learning tools. Courses emphasize applications of theory and tools to solving real-world business problems.

    Who can apply?

    This certificate is open to both undergraduate and graduate students.

    The undergraduate certificate provides 15 hours of undergraduate course credit that can be applied to a university degree, such as the Bachelor of Applied Arts and Sciences Degree.
    The Graduate Academic Certificate provides 15 hours of graduate course credit that can be applied to a graduate degree. In particular, completion of the Graduate Academic Certificate in Data Analytics would place graduates half-way towards completing the M.S. in Advanced Data Analytics.

    Course Formats

    This program can be complete in person at UNT at Frisco’s Hall Park campus, or in an accelerated 8-week online format. In person classes meet on weekday evenings to accommodate a busy schedule, you can view upcoming sections on the current courses page.

    Data Analytics Certificate Requirements

    A five-course sequence fulfills the requirements for the certificate in Data Analytics:

    • IPAC 4130 / ADTA 5130 (3 hrs): Data Analytics and Computational Statistics I
    • IPAC 4230 / ADTA 5230 (3 hrs): Data Analytics and Computational Statistics II
    • IPAC 4240 / ADTA 4240 (3 hrs): Principles of Data Structures, Harvesting and Wrangling
    • IPAC 4340 / ADTA 4340 (3 hrs): Methods for Discovery and Learning from Data
    • IPAC 4250 / ADTA 5250 (3 hrs): Principles of Data Visualization for Large Data
  • Legal Studies Pre-Law Certificate

    Expand your understanding of law, and get ready for your next steps.

    The Legal Studies Certificate is designed to give students a foundation in the skills and concepts that law students and lawyers need. It is not a professional certification to work as a paralegal. Rather, it was created for students interested in attending law school. The Department of Political Science will award the certificate to students who have completed 15 hours of approved course work and maintained a 3.25 in the courses taken for the certificate as well as a 3.0 cumulative UNT GPA. Classes that count toward the student’s major, minor or core requirements may also count toward this certificate.

    Legal Studies Certificate Requirements

    The Legal Studies Certificate is a 15 hour program. Students must maintain a 3.25 GPA in the certificate coursework and a 3.0 UNT GPA. All recipients of the certificate MUST complete one course from each of the following five areas:

    • Foundations
    • Analytical Reasoning
    • Ethics
    • Oral and Written Advocacy
    • Applied Legal Studies
  • Geographic Information System (GIS) Certificate

    Earn a distinguished certificate that provides technical proficiency

    If you're good at multi-tasking and have strong understanding of geography you should consider pursuing a Certificate that can set you apart from other candidates when applying for future jobs. This valuable certificate is now available through the UNT Department of Geography. The Department of Geography and the Environment offers course work leading to a Master of Science degree in Geography and a 15-credit-hour certificate in Geographic Information Systems (GIS). You also can take undergraduate and graduate-level courses without enrolling in the degree program.

    Who can apply?

    This certificate is also open to graduate and undergraduate students in Geography as well as other programs, non-degree seeking students, or outside teachers or professionals who wish to add GIS capabilities to their present careers. A grade of B or better is required in every course counted toward the certificate.
